This trike can be ordered with the NuVinci N360 hub as an upgrade, and like all Catrikes, custom colors are available for no additional charge. Contact Dave at Basically Bicycles for details.

A BionX Electric Motor Kit makes your Catrike Expedition recumbent trike even more convenient and fun. This wonderful upgrade offers both a traditional throttle and power-assist technology along with extended range for the ideal balance of pedaling and power. With BionX's proportional assist, you just set the power level on the easy-to-use backlit console and start pedaling. The harder you pedal, the more power the motor adds so you go faster and further with less effort. Or you can use the throttle for an instant burst of speed anytime. And, when the time comes to head downhill, BionX's regenerative braking uses the motor to help slow you down while recharging the battery for a sweet energy-efficient bonus!

Comments:

I've been meaning to write this for some time, but I haven't been able to stop riding long enough to do it. I love this bike. I bought the Catrike Expedition in March and living in the northeast didn't really start riding it until early April. Once I started riding I couldn't stop. I now have 900 miles on it and have been feeling stronger every time I take a ride. I found that as a rider I'm using a different leg muscle group for powering the bike and it does take a couple hundred miles to get them trained and in shape. But once they are, watch out world as speed, hill climbing ability and endurance increase tremendously. I have done a 500 mile group ride where we rode 60-100 miles a day. Along with my daily 25-60 mile rides, this past weekend a charity ride where I blew by all the "elite" riders on a downhill, much to their chagrin. Once they caught me (2 miles further down the road) they were looking for the motor on my Expedition. Quite surprised to find it was a 60+ male that embarrassed them. On the last uphill (8% grade for ½ mile) they got embarrassed again as I passed them uphill. Yes uphill. This bike not only cruises with the group on the flats but once the legs are in shape is a climbing monster machine. And it is comfortable. I get off after a ride and I feel refreshed, there is no longer and hand/wrist numbness, shoulder/neck pain or lower back pain as I used to have on my upright bike. The bike absorbs road vibrations and most of the rough bumps with ease. The mesh seat is a joy to sit in and on occasion take a quick cat nap or eat my lunch. I have friends and strangers look at my Expedition and try it out. They have been quite surprised how comfortable and how well it performs. If you are thinking of a new bike, think recumbent and give the Catrike expedition a good look. Dave at Basically Bicycles is a lot of help and wealth of knowledge, along with being honest in his dealings. He won't steer you wrong.

Comments:

My son bought a Catrike Expedition from his LBS. The owner helped him out tremendously with knowledge of his products he sells. Anyway i got on my sons trike for about 1/2 an hour and was hooked. About a month later went to the LBS, talked to him about best one for me, and i bought a red Catrike Expedition. Could never ride a regular bike, back, stiff neck. Got on my new catrike 1st day. 15 mile ride in morning,10 mile ride in afternoon, 25 total miles. No problems. ;-) Highly recommend my LBS, and a recumbent trike like this Catrike Expedition.

Comments:

I have owned my Expidition for a year now and after 1200 miles I have no complaints,I look forward to riding it every day. This trike is fast! I can hold 18 to 20 mph (not bad for an old fat guy) on the flats and down hill is a blast. This is my first recumbent and have been told they do not climb well, but I have not had any problem climbing a hill yet. [...]

    Comments:

I have Parkinsons, and have set the trike up with a Bionix electric motor to extend range, hills and in the event of motor fluctuations:(mine), the assurance of the Bionix to return home without calling for help....The trike itself is so easy and fast that without the motor my teenage sons get a workout riding with me due to improved aerodynamics of trike versus uprights; though they gain an advantage on hills and longer rides than my8-16 mile bike path routes. A member of the Wounded Warrior Program, I expect to participate in "The Soldier Ride". Please lok up and contribute to this worthy cause which helps 'severely wounded since 9/11/01 /OIF/OEF and Homeland Defense. Thank You Basically Bicycles Cattrike and Bionix for making my joy possible! John
